Received 3 Likes on 3 Posts. I had a 454 in a Class A motor home 1981 chassie. You might want to rethink this. That engine is such a POS. Talk about no power. I pulled and disposed of, less than 60k miles. I put in a Mercruiser 454HO MPI370 hp. Now that was a great engine. Finally could pass someone.

Aug 26, 2011 · The GM 454 (7.4) is a great engine. The basic engine is a real workhorse. The following is just my opinion. I feel that any coach up to 34' is just about the max for a gas engine. 37' might be a little too much for the 454. That being said, if you drive it right it should do the job for you.
A simple cam,intake & 650-750 carb will be night and day on a stock 454 truck/MH engine. A simple port, polish & gasket matching of the intake/exhaust runners will be more than sufficient for sub 4500rpm RV duty. Headers, cat delete & Flowmaster mufflers could come later on, but as mentioned don't cheap out on them.
